This can vary from one wedding to another depending on your wedding details. For example, a destination wedding would generally need a little longer in order for your guests to make travel and accommodation arrangements. . It would also depend on whether you were planning on sending save the dates. It is advised that save the dates are sent approximately 12-18 months ahead of your wedding and invitations 4-7 months (without save the dates would be better at 8-10 months). There are no real set rules here but the sooner you give notice, the more likely your guests are still going to have that date available.

Paperknots always recommends you order these before placing any orders as it gives you the opportunity to feel the quality and finish, as well as seeing the colours in print. And even better, the relevant sample cost will be refunded from your final invoice should you go on to place a wedding stationery order. Remember, on-screen colours will always vary from actual print so it’s always a good idea to order a sample to check that it is perfect for you. Please note, shop samples cannot be edited to contain your personal details.

The whole process for House Collections usually takes around 4-6 weeks from start to finish (although has often been done quicker) but it heavily depends on how quickly you are able to respond to emails throughout the process and sign off artwork for print. Printing only takes place when Paperknots has written confirmation (email is fine) that you are fully happy to progress with printing. From artwork sign off, your order can take around 2-4 weeks to be returned from the printers and invite suites compiled. Times vary depending on the time of year, quantities ordered and the complexity of the chosen range.

If you are looking to order bespoke work then you need to consider lengthier time frames. The design process (depending on detail involved) can add on approximately 2-3 months from start to finish. You would then still need to allow 2-4 weeks for final designs to be printed and completed.

Please note that Paperknots has limited studio slots for bespoke projects taken on each year so the best advice is to make contact as soon as possible.

If you are looking at the House Collections, then as mentioned above it is highly recommended that you order a sample to check you are happy with the overall product. Samples can be purchased online from the shop but the actual stationery orders will need to be ordered via email – this allows Paperknots to assist with any special requirements and ensure that there is availability for your order. You can do this by using the contact form or emailing with your requests.

Once your email is received Paperknots will provide you with a full quote so you are aware of the final costs before starting the process. If you approve the quote, along with Ts&Cs sent you would then pay a 50% non-refundable deposit in order for the design work to commence. The remaining balance is then due prior to the actual print of the stationery, after your items have been designed and approved by yourself by form of a pdf.

There is – due to the time involved in creating your artwork along with printers minimum quantities, you need to order at least 30 invitations from any one suite.

You’ve ordered your samples (where possible) and paid your deposit, so what happens next? Once the payment has been confirmed by Paperknots your stationery work will commence in the timescales discussed prior to booking.

House collections – Paperknots will provide you with a list of information required in order to complete your order. The sooner you respond with this detail, the sooner the work can begin. It is your responsibility to check the information required, including spelling and grammar, as any printed copy mistakes will be at your cost to replace (so please do double check everything!) Of course if Paperknots spots any errors whilst working on your invites, it will be brought to your attention but it can’t be guaranteed that everything will be caught! Once the customisation has been made you’ll receive pdf proofs of each item, where your final approval of each product will be required before anything can go to print.

Bespoke orders – A consultation will take place before any design work is started; this can be either in person, via phone or on email, depending on logistics and your personal preference. It is essential that Paperknots gathers as much information from you about your wedding day as well as any likes, dislikes and budgets in order to provide you with the best and most suitable solutions for your stationery. It may be that you have a vision of your own and want Paperknots to help bring that to life or, that you’re time-stretched (or not really creatively-minded) but still want something to wow your guests; Paperknots is more than happy to advise you and present various options to you. From your initial consultation a design fee will be emailed to you depending on the complexity of the work involved – this starts from £300 in addition to the cost of your products.

For the design work to commence you’ll need to make payment of your quoted fee. From here, Paperknots will either provide you with a moodboard (where this has been previously agreed) and if you are happy with the outcome of this, you’ll then receive 2-3 designs to choose from. If no moodboard is included, you skip straight to the designs stage. You will get one set of major amends and 3 sets of minor amends within your cost and subsequent amends will be charged at £35 per hour. Once your chosen design has been developed and you are happy with everything you will receive a digital pdf proof to approve – once that has been signed off, you’ll get one hard copy proof free of charge so that you can also check paper qualities, colours and overall finishes. Additional proofs are charged at £20-30 to cover printing costs. The print of the final order will take place once the full balance has been settled.

Well of course – on-the-day items are available in every collection and if there’s something yet to be designed or not shown in the portfolio then just ask, this can be anything from placenames to venue signage or favour tags to table plans. These items are charged separately whereby prices vary from one design to another.

Paperknots understands that when you make your initial enquiries (whether it be for a house collection or bespoke design) you won’t have all the information required to complete many items for the wedding day. For example you need to wait to receive your RSVPs from guests in order to create a seating plan, or maybe the venue or church haven’t provided you with the exact order of the day details – this is not a problem and often the on-the-day items are dealt with and paid for at a later stage.

Yes! Although designs, layouts and styles are thoughtfully considered to best suit the collection, Paperknots recognises that there are sometimes things that may not quite work for you. Changes are variable from one collection to another so just mention in your initial enquiry that you had something specific in mind. This may be things such as alternative wording – perhaps you’d prefer a more formal approach, or maybe the colours aren’t quite to your scheme and need a little editing to suit. You may want to add a little extra luxury and upgrade the paperstocks or add special finishes such as foiling. Feel free to ask away!

Shipping can vary from one order to the next. All orders are sent via a fully trackable courier service which takes 24-48 hours (unless agreed otherwise). Prices are based on the final size and weight of your parcel. An average order costs around £11.95 but your personal cost will be included in your initial quote.
